Description

The Kiss of Death was published in paperback in April 2009, and picked up a thread from his highly acclaimed My Swordhand is Singing (winner of the 2007 Booktrust Teenage Book Award). On top of that, Audible has it as a 3 chapter book when there are number chapter headings read out so that I know there are at least 21 chapters in here. We move to the present day where we follow the group of teens who are on a history trip to the city of Eyam to learn about the plague and the stories behind it. This book was one of the random picks of this years challenge and my goodness am I glad I picked it up.

The characters are fairly simple but then maybe 8 year olds will find their thinking patterns and slowness more reasonable. The Meh: The writing isn’t horrible, although the pacing leaves something to be desired (which I’ll get to soon). Bad stuff happens to the FMC in the beginning, Death takes her home, then nothing for the remaining 80% of the book. She's been forced to live the life of a slave, neglected by her family and abused by her stepmother and her two stepbrothers. I generally don't even find myself disliking books because there's something out there for everyone but this one properly took me out. A student now at Wakefield Hall Collegiate, run by her aunt, she thought she had left the past behind. I'd had it for ages but didn't know where I was going to use it until the character of Edgar came along: "I suspect I may have fleas again". I was willing to give it a 4 out of 5 thinking that maybe this was a brand new indie author who just needs to hit her stride as far as plot and pacing goes, but it seems like she has had quite a few books out and so I really wish her writing was more mature in those respects.

Any images belonging to the author should be regarded in the same way as the previously mentioned written content and should not be used without permission. a must read, anyone will enjoy this book, something for everyone of all ages i love these book, they are way better than the twilight books more in them. Of course, as expected, nothing ever goes as well as you would wish with our gang of four and their little road trip quickly spirals into a bit of a disaster going from bad to worse and Oliver’s hidden agenda is doing nothing to help. Of course lots of people are going to love the feel of this book but for me, this book was unfortunately a bad experience from beginning to end.I guess I missed Morganville a little and there was obviously a gigantic gap left by the absence of Myrnin but, after a slowish start, this book manages to pull out a few shocks and quickly becomes the action packed adventure that you come to expect from RC. Someone is trying to kill her throughout the whole thing, and she's trying to figure out what to do with her relationship with Jase and why Taylor is acting weird.

They must uncover the mystery of what has happened both to Sorrel’s father, who is plagued by a strange madness that prevents him from sleeping, and to Marko’s father, a doctor, who has mysteriously gone missing after travelling to Venice to help his old friend . The whole time i thought this was a standalone too, so you can imagine my pain when it ended on a cliffhanger and they still hadn’t gotten together. I’m a bit behind and need to catch up – Ghost Town is just sat looking at me and waiting to be read! And I honestly am so confused how the author plans to turn this into a “why choose” because everything feels so disconnected. No backbone at all, extremely frustrating to see her just get abused and she is too dumb to just tell her father about it and the fact she won't for stupid reasons. I would consider Kiss of Death to be almost "monster-lite" - the MMC is supposed to be monstrous (he is Death, after all), which I like, but he’s also supposed to be gorgeous? the heroine was also very flat and one-dimensional, and had the personality of a wet blanket except for one (1) outburst which didn't even last that long. But we still have the same sarcasm, wit, and humour from all the main characters that make us love them so much.
