About this deal

To make it we use the help of a machine – the only exception to a process that is carried out entirely by hand.

Krumiri are divine on their own but are also wonderful with other delicacies, with two provisos: the accompaniment must bring out the Krumiri’s flavour without overpowering them, and it must be something special in its own right. The family takes care to prepare the cornmeal cookies using Rossi's original three-day artisanal method as well as to package the cookies in the traditional keepsake tin – they're an incredibly popular around Christmas. Fun fact: it is said that only two people at a time know the FULL recipe of these amazing biscuits, which were first produced by mistake. This handlebar shape is said to have been chosen in honour of the extravagantly moustachioed Victor Emanuel II, the first king of united Italy. It’s like longingly following a smell, a fragrance that wafts out of a confectioner’s kitchen, filling the air of a town’s streets, enchanting the senses and imagination, and thereby perpetuating the history of those who instigated and nurtured that passion.

Whether true or not the creation of Signor Rossi was immediately popular and his entrepreneurial talent was soon rewarded with a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition of Turin in 1884. It was amazing to see a typical Italian gentleman on the cash counter and just behind the bakery is where the local ladies worked to prepare, sort and pack them. Today Galup selects the best flour, butter and eggs to pay homage to this gem of a confectionery tradition. Today krumiri are among the Piedmontese specialities included in the Region’s official list of Prodotto agroalimentare tradizionale. Arborio, Carnaroli and 11 other varieties of rice are grown in paddy fields, irrigated by river water.

Their shape is inspired by the moustache of Vittorio Emanuele II, King of Italy, but they are also famous for their recipe. By accepting these services, we are able to show you videos or other media content hosted by external providers.

Then Ercole Portinaro took over the company in 1953, followed by his son Romolo and Krumiri began to outgrow their original local roots day by day, finally conquering the whole of Italy and the world. In the Twenties, Angelo Ariotti took over Domenico Rossi’s business and, with it, the recipe and the Krumiro patent, so the biscuit could continue its grand tradition through history, the same as it always was. The only trouble is that they are unable to keep up with demand and, especially around Christmas time, you could find the product sold out very frequently. With their iconic semicircular shape, the Classic Krumiri have never changed their recipe, keeping the same ingredients and proportions to preserve the tradition of Bistefani. It is not possible for us to draw any conclusions about you, and any data collected as a result will never be passed on to third parties. Who knows if Domenico Rossi could have imagined that Krumiri would become the symbol of his beloved town of Casale?

There’s always the strong desire to look towards the future and a new era, but also to respect traditions that convey values and security at the same time. These italian Biscuits are for breakfast and for any time of the day, so good that you want to eat One More.

Having said that about the product, every single staff is not friendly and rude every time I went there, there is always a frustrating story, this included the owner. Enjoy the original zabaione with the sweet Krumiri which is infused with a hint of aromatic Madagascar vanilla.
