Description

Engineers, hackers and makers of all stripes, rejoice for the third edition … has been worth the wait! Here, you’ll find a discussion of simple diode- and MOSFET-based reverse battery protection circuits, lithium-ion battery circuit safety, implementing foldback current limiting, controlling DC motors with PWM, high-side current sensing, and various other topics in power electronics design.

It defines the current state of the art in electronics … Most parts of the book will continue to be relevant for several decades. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I was about the only student who checked it out in 2 years – I think one other student managed to check it out when I was forbidden to renew it for a week. Like in the original AoE books, in addition to the discussion of design issues, the new book contains selection tables for various electronic parts. The new Art of Electronics retains the feeling of informality and easy access that helped make the first edition so successful and popular. It’s at the same time an expanded discussion of many of the topics covered in AoE3 and a self-contained reference manual on a variety of topics in electrical engineering.

Having documented my attempts at this in these very pages, I can really appreciate the care and detail that went into the treatment of this subject in the x-Chapters. Chapter 5 details every circuit artifact that I've encountered in the past thirty years in a through, pragmatic, and straightforward way. The effected area was only about 10mm x 10mm at 2 corners, and using a scalpel, i was able to carefully cut away the tiny amount of surplus paper - the 'surgery' is barely noticeable. I never heard of the book until the age of the popular internet, maybe 1996, but then it seemed referenced “everywhere”, I always assumed because many had it as a university text book. The Art of Electronics brilliantly conveys its authors' enthusiasm and experience of practical engineering and is an inspiring read.I purchased the print version as I was concerned that tech books don't display well on Kindle devices. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. For those unfamiliar with it, AoE, first published in 1980, is an unusually useful hybrid of textbook and engineer’s reference, blending just enough theory with liberal doses of practical experience.

Use it along with a good book which covers the analysis of circuits and it should cover most of the needs of any practicing engineer. at times, i felt completely lost, especially as they dug into relative minutiae of various components. It's an alternative way to penetrate into the engineering mindset and understand, as the title say, "The Art of Electronics", which is a lot more than just mathematics, it's a particular way of thinking, which this book teaches masterfully.

I suspect that just as importantly though, the time needed to publish these chapters would have allowed the rest of the information updated in AoE3 to stagnate for 4 years. Having had a little bit of time with it now, I’d be tempted to say that the third edition of AoE is incomplete without this additional material.

For someone closer to beginner like me what is that book that looks like it’s printed on graph paper, Electronics Notebook or something? At long last, here is the thoroughly revised and updated third edition of the hugely successful The Art of Electronics. It is widely accepted as the best single authoritative book on electronic circuit design, and is in fact so popular that it has been counterfeited - so beware if purchasing from a third party via an online retailer, as you may receive a very inferior physical product. This book favors an intuitive understanding over the endless math found in electrical engineering textbooks. I have found it very helpful, and look forward to the day that I will have enough liquidity to afford a copy of “AoE” to see the comparison. I still don't own a copy, mind you, but I have finally figured out how to use the inter-university-library-loan system to borrow it more or less permenantly.
