A worthy followup to Gentle and Lowly, showing the reader how to move on and apply that which was often only implied in the previous. Dane Ortlund’s most recent study, Deeper, continues a discussion from previous studies such as Timothy Lane and Paul David Tripp, How People Change (2003) and David Powlison, How Does Sanctification Work? But the whole book They are looking for will's dad who, as you hear over and over, could care less about his son. With reading, sometimes it’s as much about the time in which a book finds the reader as it is about the inherent essence of work itself.

Ortlund brings believers into the fullness of Christ, the emptiness of self-reliance, and their need for union and communion with God. Yet even as the challenges and doldrums arise to the reader, Ortlund paces each chapter to provide comfort as we reflect on our failure and the far-surpassing achievements of our savior. To get us started with knowing Christ better, Ortlund briefly covers eight attributes of Jesus in the opening chapter. He serves as an editor for the Knowing the Bible series and the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series, and is the author of several books, including Gentle and Lowly and Edwards on the Christian Life. After intense media interest around its launch, Tunnels was published in almost forty countries and was a New York Times Bestseller, achieving sales of more than a million copies worldwide. First, some of the language of the book could be taken to suggest a sanctification model that stresses a moment of change (Keswick/Higher Life Theology).

They are both under the umbrella of union, but the process of sanctification is also spurred on by a proper recognition of what took place at justification.

It goes right to heart of why reading and meditating on God's word is so important and led me to consider and challenge all the excuses I make for not doing this regularly. Mother being torn believing her son went murderous (nice idea but I hated her reaction) and a Friend getting full of the troubles his friend put him through. He is currently elder for pulpit supply and interim pastor for area local churches in upstate New York. By looking to Christ and truly understanding who He is, and what He did for us, we grow to love Him more.

They met two rebels Darek and Elliot who tell them how the Styxs are mass killing the Deep’s residents for unknowing reasons. A special thank you to Crossway Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review. Think less of climbing a mountain and more of swimming in a deep ocean of the always-more-ness of Jesus. As a graduating student, is my choice of church, career path, college, trade school, or military service a sign that I’m free to forge my own way, or am I simply bound by the standards of my parents or my culture? The characters in "Deeper" were more developed than in "Tunnels", probably because they've just gone through a lot, but still, I really liked that.Having marinated in the wisdom, beauty, and encouragement of Dane’s new book, I totally understand why my friend chose deeper as the primary image for the title. In his words, “This is a book with one point: Be astonished at the gracious heart of Jesus Christ, proven in his atoning work in the past and his endless intercession in the present. Both books give us a sense of compassionate security, confidence, and encouragement in our faith journey.
