Bought for 13 year old son who is interested in cars, not sure what he would think but was very impressed. Therefore, I was delighted when I was sent the Machine Works Haynes V8 Model Engine Kit complete with Digital and Interactive Augmented Reality to work on. and be able to see how it works with its moving parts, complete with illuminated spark plugs and engine sounds. Ideal for budding engineers these models feature clear parts so that you can see all of the internal parts moving.

Plus, once completed the model maker can register the built engine online and will receive a certificate of authenticity from Haynes Publishing. Was well worth the money, in view of the time and concentration involved with building this model engine. With this Haynes 4 Cylinder Engine construct a fully working model of a petrol car engine with ignition sound and illuminating spark plugs. It's loads of fun to build and keep little ones attention spans, excellent instructions coupled with quality materials give this kit a true sense that you have spent much more on it than you have. These kinds of “toys” are not only fun to build but as I know now, help children develop their dexterity skills, cognitive skills such as planning, problem solving and logical thinking, being able to read and follow instructions and other skills such as patience.

It’s fun for adults, as you can see from the timelapse we shot ourselves in the Haynes office, but they’re also great learning tools for kids. This is actually a great little kit, it was perfect for helping my car obsessed son understand how an engine works and gave me all the components in an accessible way to explain how a petrol engine works. Now as an adult I enjoy helping the kids – when they were younger it was simple marble runs that got more complex and now LEGO sets (which the kids display rather than play with).

I suppose it is an excuse to re-do it all over Did mine my son's one yesterday and also forgot to lube the bearings. The Haynes Build Your Own 4 Cylinder Internal Combustion Engine Kit: With this awesome kit you can construct a fully motorised model of a 4 Cylinder Internal Combustion Engine. It's not perfect - the fan belt causes the crankshaft to flex on rotation on mine causing an horrific graunching noise, so if yours does that, remove the belt (that's the external belt you can see going to the 4bladed fan in the pic if that's unclear) it makes no difference other than obviously the fan will no longer rotate. Aimed at children aged 10 or over, the kit is a simplified version of a real engine but is not based on the unit from a particular car. The app also has a How It Works section explaining how different components work and what their functions are.

Disclosure: I received this item for free for the purposes of writing an honest and impartial review. The only downside is that the clip on inlet and exhaust manifolds do not fit securely - a minor issue. Miscellaneous vids Cybertruck towing feat debunked Giorgetto Giugiaro, legendary car designer Video: On track with the Aston DBX707 › More Other video here.It requires several hours of your time to assemble but is great fun and the interactive app adds to the fun and is very educational. Overall, the opinions are mixed, and it'd be best to read the instructions carefully before starting to assemble the product. Spark plugs light up, pistons move up and down, the camshaft opens the valves, and the crankshaft turns the belt, which spins the fan.
