Family secrets, murder, sisterly relationships and romance all weave together to create a thrilling story with a unique take on vampires that is filled with gore and plot twists. The story kept me on my toes with constant twist and forever changing my mind on who was the series killer (I was wrong 100% of the time). I’m so glad vampires are making a comeback as I love vampiric myths and seeing how authors put their own twist on them. sisters and their friends must do what they can to survive and get to the bottom of who the psychotic serial killer is, before it's too late. It is such an atmospheric presence throughout, equal parts alluring and dangerous, and I can’t help but feel that the setting plays a major role in how well the book works.

I found myself having to make myself stop reading so I could get on with my day and then I was looking forward to sitting down so I could read more!I sped through it, loving the 90s setting and all the horror and slasher movie references and didn’t see any of the twists coming. From the eery silence and smell of ancient dirt of the St Louis Cemetery, to the gentle Jazz music and acrid tang of alcohol on Bourbon Street, you are so completely immersed in this story that it all comes to life right before your eyes. Following a seventeen-year-old girl (Mina) who grew up in Whitby (a coastal town in England where Draculas’ ship crashes in the 1897 Stoker novel) but is relocating to New Orleans for the summer to stay with her older sister. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!

It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. She is brave without being reckless, stands up for herself but knows when to pick her battles, and is intelligent and empathetic. Mina and her sister Libby have had their ups and downs, but Mina goes to stay with her older sister for a summer she'll never forget. This one had me hooked from the start with the incredible New Orleans setting and all of its spooky, supernatural vibes. But the perfect summer bliss is broken when, while exploring the mansion, Mina stumbles upon the body of a girl with puncture marks on her neck, clutching a lock of hair that suspiciously resembles Libby's.The author uses 200 pages to set the story up with Mina exploring New Orleans and hearing about the murders. My main gripe with this book is the writing style though: It seemed a bit too simple to me, almost as though the book was aimed at a much younger audience, but that doesn't match the characters being college age and the serious themes and gory imagery in the book.

Amy does such a great job combining classic tropes with fresh ideas and produces a gripping thriller that engages the reader from the very first page. On her first trial day at the Horror Mansion there is an accident that will trigger a series of events that will put Mina in great danger. She wants to explore New Orleans darkest secrets – vampire tours, seedy bars, spooky cemeteries, disturbing local myths.
