About this deal

We recently reviewed OneOdio's dedicated studio-oriented wired headphones, the Monitor 60. They were strictly for listening to audio in the old-school way. Besides saving you the hassle and expense of buying separate cables, this means that out of the box, you're ready to go. It's a small thing, but we appreciated that one of the cables had an inline microphone with a call or pause button so that these headphones can be used for more everyday purposes other than solely audio production. So for my sound tests, I hooked up the Pro-50 Studio to my LG V60 smartphone with the ESS hi-fi Quad DAC engaged. I used the mobile microphone cable connected to the 3.5mm side of the headphones. The only issue is with those chrome earcups: they show up greasy fingerprints badly and need constant cleaning.

Well made, comfortable and acoustically competent, there’s not much more you can ask for from a pair of budget wireless ANC headphones. Having both wired and wireless functionality is always appreciated, for those times when you leave home only to realise that you've forgotten to charge the headphones; for those long trips away from civilisation when battery life might not be sufficient; or simply to enjoy the best sound possible. A wired connection still trumps Bluetooth audio and will probably continue to best it for quite some time. When you've got big-sounding, punchy, clear 40mm drivers capable of satisfactorily reproducing Hi-Res Audio, as you have with these A10s, you might well opt to listen wired more often. The sound is quite V-shaped with ANC off. In contrast, the bass is perfectly flat with ANC on, while the treble stays sparkly and a tad too bright. Firstly, these headphones have impressed us with the build quality and design. The unit feels really quite premium and all the buttons are nice to press. The ear padding is very comfortable and the cups fit comfortably over all types of ears.Plush earpads create a slight vacuum that keeps most of the ambient sound out. Of course, if you’re not playing music, you can still hear everything around you. Still, after some time, you will start noticing an aching sensation, which will force you to take a break. Going into the more positive side, earpads use soft pleather with tight stitching that doesn’t seem cheap. The weakest aspect of the OneOdio Monitor 60 wired headphones is the one that's probably most important to you: sound quality. Things start well with a reasonably wide soundstage. But, as you listen, you'll realize there's not much excitement behind the OneOdio Monitor 60, although the sound is fairly clean at least.

The 2300 chipset allows for support of AAC and SBC - there's no LDAC support sadly, but it's possible to meet the Hi-Res Standard (as we mentioned previously) by using the headphones in wired mode. What happens when you take a headphone with a… very opinionated tuning and you make it wireless? Well, you get a wireless headphone with very opinionated tuning. Which is something that surely is not going to please everyone. That’s our premise for the OneOdio A70, which are basically a wireless Pro-50, with all the good and the bad things that come from that. OneOdio's 'Hybrid Active' technology allows total immersion to keep your audio enjoyment free of distraction, but can also be easily turned on and off with a simple press of a button on the earphones, so you can bring in more of the outside world as necessary. OneOdio calls such lighter ANC modes 'Talk-in through technology' and 'Ambient Listening Mode', which effectively means your voice comes across clearer on voice and video calls and you can still monitor the sounds of the outside world, respectively. The Focus A10s on review here are a return to the thoroughly modern world of Bluetooth 5.0, true wireless, active noise-cancelling headphones.Using the A10s for long periods, we found them nicely accommodating and comfortable to wear. The metal headband is adjustable and flexible, so will suit any size noggin, and those memory foam earpads are pleasingly soft. We've had softer, but there's nothing to grumble about here. Transparency mode is adequate, but can make your own voice sound a little raspy in your own ears, and whilst there is only a minor amount of static noise that wasn't enough to bother me, it may not be to everyone's liking. It handles mid-distance conversations well, but any further and it may struggle - if someone is shouting at you from the other side of the room, you'll probably hear it, but you may not be able to decipher every word. On the song “Babylon Sisters” by Steely Dan, the overarching bassline was nice because it was deep without being boomy or sloppy, but there was just a little bit too much of it for my taste. If it was toned down a bit, I think it would’ve allowed the mids to breathe a little more, but as such, the bass tends to bleed into the mids and kind of takes over the mix.
